Vall de Núria station, with a unique wealth of nature and landscape, is located in the Eastern Pyrenees, within the municipal area of Queralbs. It sits above one of the highest points of the Ribes Valley and it?s surrounded by peaks of almost 3,000 metres from which flow a multitude of water sources and torrents.
Under the management of the Catalan Railways Tourism and Mountain Division, we have always taken great care in the upkeep of this wealth of natural heritage, introducing and maintaining an environmental management system in all the activities that have been developed. All that has been done in keeping with the requirements contained in the ISO 14001 standard. At the same time, the ski resort has been awarded a Q rating for quality, granted by the Tourist Quality Institute.
Discover an unparalleled environment where the waters of the Núria river can only run its course thanks to the deep narrow gorges that have been cut through this hard rock, until you arrive at the valley of the Freser, a river which flows into the great Ter at Ripoll.
We invite you to glory in this spectacular mountain landscape using an unusual form of transport: the rack railway. It covers a distance of 12.5 km and takes you up an incline of over 1000 metres.
Núria?s rack railway is a railroad train line that connects Ribes de Freser with Queralbs and Vall de Núria, whitin the Ripollès region.
Together with the rack of Montserrat`s rack railway, are the only railway lines of this type to Catalonia and that they remain in servei at the Iberian Peninsula. It is 1 of the 2 rack railwais in the Pyrenees, the other is the rack railway or train of Larrun (Rhune) located in the Atlantic Pyrenees. The Núria station located at 1964 meters of altitude is the highest railway point in Catalonia and in the Pyrenees. It is the 14th highest railway line in Europe, the highest outside the Alps.
Because Queralbs is the highest point of the valley with access by road, the rack railway is the only way to reach the sanctuary and the ski resort, apart from the mountain road. The rack railway of Núria has become one of the characteristic icons of the Valley and the region of Ripollès. At the Ribes Vila stop you can see the permanent exhibition of ´´The Rack Railway, a Unique Ingenuity´´.
With the rack railway the users live a world of sensations from the first moment: they enjoy the beauty and the spectacular landscape that Núria`s rack railway crosses. With a singular character, the rack railway train travels 12.5 km and exceeds a drop of more than 1,000 meters.
